Who Is A Respiratory Therapist?
  • Respiratory Therapist provides evaluation, treatment, care and education of patients with breathing disorders.

  • Respiratory Therapist is a vital part of the hospital's lifesaving response team.


Respiratory Therapy offers a wide range of services offered at larger facilities.  The respiratory Therapy Department was an addition to services in 2011 at Iron County Medical Center.  We currently have 3 Registered Respiratory Therapists on staff.

What Type Of Procedures Does A Respiratory Therapist Perform?
  • Operate and maintain sophisticated equipment to administer oxygen or assist with breathing.

  • Use mechanical ventilation for treating patients who cannot breathe adequately on their own.

  • Obtain and analyze breath and blood  specimens

  • Measure capacity of a patient's lungs to determine if there is impaired function

  • Monitor and manage therapy that will help a paitent recover lung function

  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKG), to help determine heart conditions.

  • Administer medications in aerosol form to help relieve breathing difficulties and help prevent respiratory infections

  • Evaluate patients for the presence of sleep disorders

Hours of operation:  7:00 am - 7:00 pm Monday - Sunday

    Sleep Studies:  8:00 pm -5:30 am  Monday - Sunday
